GUAM; ROTA; TINIAN; SAIPAN — * WHAT...Large breaking waves of 9 to 12 feet and dangerous rip currents expected.
* WHERE...West and north facing reefs of Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan.
* WHEN...Until 4 PM ChST this afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...As TY In-fa moves away from the far northern CNMI, the large, long-period northwest to north swell emanating from In-fa will maintain hazardous surf along north and west facing reefs. Seas have begun to slowly subside and have gradually turned northwest, ending hazardous surf along east facing reefs and beginning hazardous surf along west facing reefs. Surf will remain hazardous through this afternoon. These surf conditions will maintain a high risk of dangerous rip currents. Although surf is now below hazardous levels along east facing reefs, the rip current risk will remain high.
