POINTE COUPEE; WEST FELICIANA; EAST FELICIANA;… — Elevated fire weather conditions can be expected across portions of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi this afternoon. Relative humidity values are forecast to drop into the low 20 to mid 30 percent range. The 20 ft wind forecast is expected to remain at or below 10 mph, which should limit critical fire weather conditions or at least the effective spread of fires that may ignite.
Some improvement in humidity levels is expected on Sunday afternoon with levels about 10 percent higher (30 to 40 percent) than this afternoon. An additional 10 percent increase is possible on Monday, which should lower the threat level somewhat.
Numerous local burn bans are in place and continue to expand across LA and MS due to ongoing drought conditions. This now includes East Feliciana, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, St Tammany, Tangipahoa, Washington and West Feliciana Parishes along with Wilkinson, Amite, Pike, and Walthall Counties. Regardless, outdoor burning is strongly not recommended this afternoon, and all local restrictions followed.
