High Surf Advisory

Corrected wave height.

...HIGH SURF ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM CHST SATURDAY... ...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON... ...HIGH SURF WARNING IS CANCELLED... ...COASTAL FLOOD STATEMENT IS CANCELLED...

* WHAT...Large breaking waves of 10 to 14 feet and dangerous rip currents expected.

* WHERE...West, north and east facing reefs of Tinian and Saipan.

* WHEN...Until 4 PM ChST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Breaking waves can sweep people off jetties and docks, and into dangerous seas. Life-threatening swimming conditions and beach erosion can be expected. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...As TY In-fa moves through the far northern CNMI, the large, long-period northeast to north swell emanating from In-fa will maintain hazardous surf along north and east facing reefs. Seas have begun to slowly subside and will gradually turn northwest, ending hazardous surf along east facing reefs and beginning hazardous surf along west facing reefs this evening. Surf will remain hazardous through Saturday afternoon. These surf conditions will maintain a high risk of dangerous rip currents. Although surf will fall below hazardous levels along east facing reefs, the rip current risk will remain high.
